Marilyn Frishman, Joyce Davis, Jean Bays and Amy Campbell, representing the Friendship Garden Club of Katy, made a generous donation to the KHS Beekeeping Club today! Their support will allow our club to purchase new hive boxes, which will allow us to continue with our swarm removal and rehoming effort! These new boxes will be housed at the KHS apiary, where rescued bees will be critical pollinators at the nearby prairie and 18+ vegetable gardens. We are so thankful for the amazing groups in our community who make our club possible!
We are so pleased to announce that three amazing KHS students, Katherine Hall, Charlie Reichel and Lola Howell, are the recipients of an EcoRise award for their project, “All Eyes on Bees”. Their work aims to increase community awareness about bees, highlighting the importance of pollinators and encouraging individuals to create their own pollinator-safe spaces. Award money will be used to install “bee cams” inside our KHS hives, livestreaming the behaviors of our hardworking bees! We will be using Reolink 4G LTE cameras that employ infrared technology. This lower wavelength allows us to capture nighttime activity, view within the hives (in low-lighting), and most importantly, does not disrupt the bees. We will broadcast hive activity through a link on our NEW beekeeping website (www.khsbeekeeping.org), viewable anywhere in the United States! Thank you to EcoRise for your GENEROUS and continued support!
